Professional Development

The primary goal of SVUSD staff development plan is to engage teachers, administrators and staff in developing, researching and disseminating effective models of instruction.  Effective professional development is essential to improving overall student outcomes.
Our professional development plan is driven by the LCAP (Local Control Accountability Plan) and SPSAs (School Plans for Student Achievement.)
Curricular Targeted Areas:

  • Beginning Teacher Support and Assessment (BTSA) through the New Teacher Project
  • Math Training
    • Textbook Publishers
    • Silicon Valley Math Initiative (SVMI) Strategies, in partnership through a grant with S4C (Santa Cruz College Career Commitment) 
      • The Silicon Valley Mathematics Initiative is a comprehensive effort to improve mathematics instruction and student learning.  The initiative is based on high performance expectations, ongoing professional development, examining student work, and improved math instruction.  The Initiative includes a formative and summative performance assessment system, pedagogical content coaching, and leadership training and networks. 
  • Integration and Implementation of Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS)
  • English Language Development for Teachers (ELD)
  • International Baccalaureate (IB)
  • Technology Integration
  • History Textbook Adoption
  • Social Emotional Learning

There are two non-student Professional Development days for teachers:

  • March 15, 2019
