PG&E Public Safety Power Shutoff Information
Posted 10/8/19

Dear Scotts Valley Parents,

As you may know, PG&E is planning on implementing a power shut off early morning Wednesday, October 9th, possibly through Thursday, October 10th. PG&E is informing us this shut off is weather dependent, but most likely is going to occur.  The information we currently have is that Scotts Valley High School and Vine Hill schools would be affected. At this point, we still plan to hold school until further notice. The school sites will be in communication with parents and students if those plans change.

Our current understanding is that if this power outage is implemented, schools primarily near the valleys and the forests will be impacted. Every district has a different situation with water and sanitation systems, and we are fortunate that the restrooms will still function even without electricity. We are working on other emergency measures for refrigeration and food preparation and we ask for your patience during this new circumstance that we are going to experience. As we understand it, this may be the first of a few power outages dependent on weather conditions.

Of course, student and staff safety are paramount so if circumstances change, we will make decisions accordingly.   We will update you as soon as we can.

Thank you in advance for your patience and support!

Sincerely,

Tanya Krause, Superintendent
